HC wants long-term plans on garbage disposal

Shillong June 3: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday asked the Jowai Municipal Board to indicate the long-term plans to resolve the garbage issue in Jowai.

“The Municipal Board should file an affidavit when the matter appears next indicating the immediate future steps and long-term plans to resolve the problem,’ the court said.

The court deferred the hearing to June 17 after the petitioner – Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai – has agreed with the submission made on behalf of the respondent authorities particularly the Jowai Municipal Board that some progress has been made.

The board also informed it is working with all localities and has appealed to the residents to segregate the waste so that the disposal is easier.
