Hek releases bikes to artificial insemination workers

Minister visits govt farms in Garo Hills

Shillong, Aug 29: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister AL Hek on Tuesday handed over two bikes to two best performing Private AI (Artificial Insemination) workers. Bikes were given under Rashtriya Gokul Mission Scheme to facilitate timely AI in cows.

AI programme has been launched to improve the local cattle breeds by crossing with high yielding breeds like HF sahiwal tharparkar and others and this step will increase cattle population and enhance milk production in the state.

Hek visited Garo Hills to review implementation of schemes and functioning of government farms.

He interacted with senior officer, all district veterinary officers and farm managers.

Hek urged the officers to work hard collectively to promote livestock sector to create jobs.

He wanted the government poultry farms, pig farms and cattle farms to increase out put and produce more piglets, poultry birds and dairy calves for supplying to farmers

He also informed that schemes will be sanctioned to revamp government farms to increase production of piglets, poultry and dairy cows

He visited central dairy plant Ganol and opened milk parlour which will supply fresh milk and milk products to people.

He also inaugurated workers’ amenities buildings at Ganol .

The minister visited poultry farms and cattle farms at Rongkhon and reviewed the infrastructure and stressed the need to improve infrastructure to meet the target.
