Heroin seized from drum in East Jaintia Hills
Shillong, Apr 28: East Jaintia Hills Police on Saturday seized heroin from a drum kept in a vehicle
According to the police, on Saturday, checking was conducted at Rattachera Check Post under East Jaintia Hills.
During the checking around 8 am, a Mahindra pick-up truck without a registration number (A/F) was searched.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying one black plastic gallon(drum) of 50 liters.
After examining the gallon, a packet containing suspected contraband substance was recovered from the drum.
Following examination, the driver revealed that the contraband substance was brought from Churachandpur, Manipur to be transported to Shillong.
The driver has been identified as Nehtinmang Haokip (36) son of Janglet Haokip from M Songgel village, Churachandpur District, Manipur.
In the presence of independent witnesses, 84 soap cases, each filled with yellowish/orange powder suspected to be heroin was recovered from the drum.
During preliminary test, it was confirmed positive for heroin. The weight and measurement were conducted on the spot using a digital weight machine, and the net weight of the recovered suspected heroin around 900 gms has with market value of Rs 7.2 crore.
Besides the contraband substance (heroin), police seized one bolero pick up vehicle and one mobile phone .
The driver of the vehicle who is the accused has been detained and an NDPS case is being registered in this regard.
