Shillong, Sept 21: State Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), has conducted an intelligence-led operation in the Pynthorumkhrah area of Shillong, resulting in the seizure of 40.12 grams of heroin valued around 7 lakh in the illicit market.
An official statement said on Monday( Sept 21) that acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of narcotics from Silchar, Assam, to Shillong for delivery, the state ANTF deployed its personnel at strategic locations in the area. During the operation, a vehicle bearing registration number (ML-05-AD-1301) was intercepted at Pynthorumkhrah. The two occupants of the vehicle were identified as: Jamir Hussain Laskar, son of Late Makabul Ali Laskar, resident of Pangram, Cachar, Assam; and Joy Ryntathiang, son of Late D. Chyne, resident of Umkdait, Nongmensong, Shillong.
Upon search of the vehicle and its occupants as per established legal procedures, four soap boxes containing a substance suspected to be heroin were recovered from the vehicle. The substance subsequently tested positive for heroin and was found to have a net weight of 40.12 grams.
The contraband was seized and both accused persons were arrested after observing all mandatory legal formalities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband and to identify other persons associated with the trafficking network, the police said.
The successful operation reflects the unwavering commitment of the State ANTF and Meghalaya Police to disrupting narcotics supply chains and dismantling organised drug-trafficking networks operating in and through the state.
