Shillong, Jan 16: HNYF on Thursday protested against creation of land banks through Invest Meghalaya Authority.
HNYF activists held placards and voiced opposition to Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Act, 2024 at the civil hospital junction
HNYF president Sadon Blah said the organisation is against creation of land banks
He said HNYF will meet next week to discuss the further course of action and added that the organisation is not against investment but it should not go against the existing mechanism.to protect the customary laws of the people of the state.
On January 15, the cabinet removed para 34 of the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Act, 2024 so that the Meghalaya Land Transfer Regulation Act, 1971 is not diluted.
Besides, the cabinet decided to add one more paragraph under paragraph 13 of the Act empowering district councils to issue permission to investors whenever it is required.
