Speaking to reporters on Thursday (Oct 8) , he said  the six-month extension of GHADC term must be used only to hold elections at the earliest.

He accused the government of ignoring unrest in Garo Hills.

“The unrest situation happened because the government did not take cognizance of things unfolding in western part of the state,” Sangma said.

According to Sangma, he said cautioned the government during the Budget Session but instead of dialogue, it announced schemes and pushed for polls.

“There was no dialogue. They went ahead with the election. They could not hold an election and had to extend. We all came together to douse the fire,” he said.

He also rejected the charges of fuelling unrest and said, “It is not Dr Mukul who desires to add fuel to fire. My heart is in pain when I see the state burn. I started at 27 as MLA and gave my life to see the state come this far.”
