
Shillong, Sept 15: The educational institutes under Jaiaw and Mawkhar areas will remain closed on September 15 on account of the funeral of former Chief Minister DD Lapang.
However, the government offices throughout the East Khasi Hills will function normally.
This was informed by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah.
The decision by the government is for the smooth flow of traffic.
The funeral service is scheduled at 1 pm at Jaiaw Students Field, followed by the burial at Jaiaw Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner declared a holiday to pay respects to the departed soul.
“In view of the sad demise of Shri D. D. Lapang, Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and as a mark of respect to the departed leader, it is hereby ordered that all Government Offices, Revenue and Magisterial Courts, Educational Institutions, Banks and Financial Institutions within Ri Bhoi District shall remain closed on Monday, the 15th of September, 2025”, the order said.
According to the Ri Bhoi district administration, the order was issued as a mark of honour and respect to the memory of Lapang and in recognition of his distinguished service to the state and its people.
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) said the funeral will be live-streamed by the DIPR on its social media handles Facebook and YouTube, and through the ABC Digest YouTube Channel, to enable the public to witness the programme.
