Shillong, April 17: Deputy Commissioner (Election) & East Khasi Hills District Election Officer SC Sadhu has ordered closure of educational institutes on April 18 ( Thursday).
April 19 is already a holiday in the state due to the polling day.
In the order issued on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner (Election) said “in view of the General Elections to the Lok Sabha 2024, the Undersigned directs that all Private and Government Educational Institutions/Schools/Colleges/ITI under Shillong Urban Areas shall remain closed on the 18th April 2024 being the Movement Day for all polling parties within 1-Shillong (ST) Parliamentary Constituency. Compliance to this Order shall be ensured by the District School Education Officer, East Khasi Hills District and all Principals/Registrars/Controlling authorities of concerned educational institutions”.
When asked, Sadhu said schools are closed for traffic convenience of the polling personnel only in urban areas.
