HSPDP wants to pull out of RDA

Shillong, July 4: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will come out of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) due to the set back of the alliance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The RDA candidate for Shillong seat was Robertjune Kharjahrin.

United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh said, “There are multiple factors for the failure of the RDA candidate, which is why as you can see even the HSPDP has decided to pull out of the RDA.”

“So these are the factors that are important points to take into account. Now a lot of factors are at work and one of them was also the fact that we could not galvanise our entire cadre in a manner that we should have done and the decision of the RDA, the name of the candidate was declared at the eleventh hour, a year after the VPP candidate has gone touring around,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Lyngdoh said, “Yes, the HSPDP have expressed their unwillingness to continue with the RDA. You might say we might think that it is better that we walk different ways since we could not touch 5 percent of the total votes this time probably had we contested as UDP alone, we could have crossed that. So these are all in the realm of probability.”

When asked, Lyngdoh said, “That was an expression made by the HSPDP but we need to meet formally and settle all these issues”.
