Shillong, June 21: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has asked the state government to resolve the issues concerning the ASHA workers in the state.

HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem submitted a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday.

Synrem said the Meghalaya ASHA Workers Union (MAWU) was compelled to stage protest from June 19 due to unpaid incentives and delay in enhancing the honorarium from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 per month.

According to Synrem, the state government should take immediate action as the service of the AHSAs is inevitable during pandemic.

“They should be given due recognition and rewards for their services and invaluable role at the grassroots healthcare system,” Synrem said.

He pointed out that the ASHAs have been tasked by the government to conduct a door-to-door survey of the returnees, collect information, check for symptoms and monitor the health and wellbeing of people who are quarantined besides delivering them medicines and other kits.
