HYC opposes tourism works in Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary

Shillong, May 7: HYC has opposed any move to disturb the Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary.
Im a letter addressed to Additional Director General of Forests (Wildlife) & Director, Wildlife Preservation-cum- Member Secretary, Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), the HYC president Roykupar said iit is against the project proposal of “Eco Tourism Works in Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary” being implemented by Eco-Development Society of Meghalaya.
According to HYC, the spaces for living becoming more and more acute, Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary serves as a ‘refuge’ for a number of species of animals, birds, reptiles and insects. “Therefore, any activities in and around the sanctuary, pre and post development of tourism activities, will adversely impact the animals, birds and insects inside and will eventually lead to their death or exile and the once known ‘asĀ sanctuary classified as a global bio-diversity hot spot under the Eastern Himalayan Endemic Bird Area rich in floral and faunal biodiversity’, will be left with no floral or fauna’.
