Shillong, Sept 12: The HYC expressed displeasure over a Hindu religious leader planning to hold a rally against cow slaughter as a press conference was scheduled to announce the programme at the Shillong Press Club on Thursday.
The HYC members gathered outside the press club premises in the presence of police personnel but the religious leader Bramachari Mukundanand, a representative of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami, Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati Ji Maharaj did not turn up though the press conference was fixed at 1 pm.
The media persons were surprised to know the presence of both the police personnel and the HYC as latter were not invited or informed about the press conference.
HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem told reporters that the intention of the HYC to gather outside the press club was not to disturb the press conference but to speak to those who organised the press conference as they came to know that the purpose was to hold rally against cow slaughter.
“We are against any move to hold rally against cow slaughter and if they hold the programme, we will organise a beef eating event during the programme”, the HYC president said.
Synrem reiterated that the HYC is not all interfering with the press club affairs and the purpose was only to talk to the Hindu religious leaders as they are free to hold the press conference.
When contacted, Yogiraj Sarkar, National Media in-charge Jagatguru Shankaracharya ji Maharaj claimed that they did not get permission from the press club to hold the press conference.
However, the Press Club said that since the religious leaders informed that they will arrive late at night, the members may not be available.
However, the press invitation was circulated in the Press Club group on Wednesday around 7. 20 pm.
The media invitation did not mention about the subject of the press conference.
“It is to be kindly informed that Bramachari Mukundanad Ji Maharaj representative of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda saraswati Ji maharaj will address a press conference at “THE SHILLONG PRESS CLUB” on 12th Sep 2024 at 1 pm”, said the invite issued by Shailendra.
According to Shailendra, the purpose of the press conference was to announce the arrival of Jyotish Peethadheeshwar Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarandah to host Gau Dhwaj to declare cow as Mother of the Nation in Shillong on October 2.
Shailendra also claimed that red meat is harmful to the body.
The Shillong Press Club has decided to issue a statement reiterating neutrality on the matter.
