HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem talked to media persons outside Director’s Administrative Block. “We have submitted a memorandum in this regards since March 24 and the seven-day ultimatum given to you has ended today. Since there was no response from your office, we have no other option but to stage this protest”, Synrem said.
However, while Mehta said a letter of response was being prepared on the matter, Synrem replied,”You should have told us like that but you didn’t even communicate anything to the organization despite the ultimatum served.”
The letter to the Director of NEIGRIHMS served on March 24, by the HYC had alleged violation of the ST reservation policy.
The HYC said only 2 seats out of 107 vacancies for the posts of Nursing Officer have been allocated for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, instead of the mandated 7.5% reservation for STs i.e. 8 seats.
“Therefore, we demand that you revise the vacancy list to allocate 7.5% (8 seats) for ST candidates, as mandated by law. Ensure strict adherence to the 80: 20 female-to-male ratio, as practiced by AIIMS and other Institutes. Establish exam centres within Meghalaya to prevent undue influence and ensure transparency. Provide age relaxation to candidates, as is customary in cases of delayed recruitment,” the memorandum said.
“We urge upon you to take immediate corrective action to address the concerns raised by us by issuing an addendum/corrigendum, whichever necessary, within a period of seven (7) days from today and failing which we will have no option but to organise public protest against the Institute for its deliberate and wilful attempt to recognised our rightful demands and concerns,” the HYC had said.
That if our demands are not met, we will protest accordingly and we will not be held responsible for any consequences arising therefrom, the HYC had warned.
Other issues highlighted by the HYC included neglect of local representation, repeated selection of male nurses from Rajasthan among others.
“As evident from earlier recruitment process, male nurses from the same centres in Rajasthan have been selected across all categories, except for the ST category, despite poor clinical performance. We were informed that numerous complaints were raised by staff and patients about the subpar performance of these nurses but these concerns were not addressed by the authorities,” HYC had said
