HYC slams Conrad for skipping local issues in I-Day speech
Shillong, Aug 18: Hynniewtrep Youth Council general secretary Roykupar Synrem has criticised Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for not flagging the important and contentious issues which were troubling the state at the 75th Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Synrem said there was no mention of inner line permit, repealing CAA, inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule or MRSS (Amendment) Bill in the chief minister’s speech. Instead, his speech was about his government’s achievements.
“What is interesting though is that in his 24-page and 46-paragraph speech is his stresses on the words ‘I, Me and My’ and not ‘Ours or us’ when taking the word ‘Government’,” pointed out Synrem.
The HYC leader also slammed Sangma for not highlighting in his speech the corruption charges against his government, spiralling prices of commodities, revenue leakage and rising drug addiction in the state, among other serious issues.
“Conrad Sangma in his speech said nothing on what his government is doing about anti-tribal and anti-Christian policy of RSS and the BJP like ban of beef, torturing of Christians across the country, imposition of Hindi language up to Class 10 etc. Even the important issue of price rise, especially the essential commodities found no mentioned in his speech,” Synrem said.
Even at the local level, the chief minister did not speak about strengthening the traditional bodies like Dorbar Shnong and Dorbar Raid. “This shows how least bothered his government is towards preserving our culture and traditions,” added Synrem.
