Shillong, Nov 2: Police official GK Iangrai,who was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the police vehicle scam, will be suspended, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Wednesday.
Tynsong said the government is left with no option but to suspend the police officer, who was arrested from his residence following a raid by the police.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Iangrai by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on October 28. This followed the constitution of a Special Investigating Team (SIT) headed by DIG (Eastern Range) Davis Marak.
According to Tynsong, as the police officer was arrested , the law will now take its own course.
“We have no option but to go for his suspension,” he said.
To a question, Tynsong said, “Ultimately let the law proceed further till the final conclusion is arrived then we will see what is to be done.”
He added the police action is guided by the law.
To a question on the CBI inquiry, Tynsong said, “You need to understand one thing since action has been taken by the concerned department, the next procedure is in place, so let the law enforcing agency take care of everything. You see this issue has also come up in the high court where I think everything will be there black and white and transparency will also be there in black and white.”
There were two inquiry reports regarding the involvement of Iangrai in the alleged diversion of funds in procurement of vehicles and construction of the National Emergency Response System (NERS) building at Sadar police station.
