‘India to be self-reliant in edible oil sector’

Patna, Sept 9 (UNI): BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi on Thursday said India would become self-reliant in edible oil sector through Rs 11,000 crore palm oil mission.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this mission was an important step to control the price of edible oil.
Modi said in edible oil sector India was dependent on 60% of its import and last year even after 83% increase in the price the country had to import 1.3 crore ton edible oil which resulted in its price rise.
The BJP MP said that under National Palm Oil Mission the government has fixed the target to expand Palm farming in 10 lakh hectare area in 5 years. Apart from this the subsidy provided to the farmers has been increased by Rs 17000 per hectare. This would give relief to the domestic edible oil industry as well as the consumers.
