Indian Railways gears up to provide Covid care coaches to states
Hyderabad, Apr 24 (UNI): The Indian Railways are making an all-out effort to supplement the healthcare efforts of the Centre.
Altogether 5,601 train coaches were converted as Covid care centres. At present, 3,816 coaches are available for Covid care. The coaches can be used for very mild cases that can be clinically assigned to the Covid care centres as per guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health. These coaches are being deployed as per demand by states, a South Central Railway release said on Saturday.
As on April 24, 21 special coaches have been deployed in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district under Western Railway. A total of 47 patients have been admitted to these coaches.
Madhya Pradesh has requested the Indian Railways to deploy 20 coaches each in Bhopal and Habibganj.
In Northern Railway, 50 Covid care coaches at Shakur Basti, 25 at Anand Vihar, 10 each in Varanasi, Bhadohi and Faizabad have been deployed by the Indian Railways.
