When asked, the chief minister said this is a new project. “There might be some part of renovation but this is a new project altogether. We wanted to be very interactive, we want to be very technology based. So, I hope that it will become a good project”, he added.

The chief minister also said the Weiking Ground itself needs uplift.

‘My personal opinion is that I feel the very field has to be renovated, I feel that it has got its own significance and many tourists are coming here, so the sitting areas can be easily expanded and most space can be created for the people who are participating in the dance and so this is again, something that I am very keen to work on and I will be speaking to the in the organizing committee to help us and work so that we can improve the overall infrastructure here in this Weiking filed also”, he said

There were a total of 1517 dancers at the Weiking Ground which include 830 male dancers and 687 female participants.

Help to other tribes

The chief minister said the government is also supporting and putting up different cultural centres from larger ones to even smaller ones.

“Like recently I was in Karbi area and I had announced Rs 50 lakh for their Cultural Centre. I have given to the Rabha community also the Koch, Hajong community too. So different communities that are there which are working towards preserving their culture, the government is more than happy to support and work with them in their endeavour to preserve the culture of the people of our state,” Sangma said.
