Infra projects fast tracked in NE for prosperous future: Murmu
Guwahati, Oct 13 (UNI): President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said infrastructure projects in the North East, particularly in rail and roads sector, were being fast-tracked which was a step towards a prosperous future.
“The Centre is giving priority to development of Northeast. The Act East policy also aims to harness the potential of the region vis-à-vis its geographical location and connect it to South East Asia,” she said at a civic reception organised by the Assam government in her honour.
She also referred to the high tourism potential of Assam which boasts of destinations like Kaziranga and Manas, and said the government was creating a favourable eco-system for it whose results will be seen in future.
The President, on her maiden visit to the State, said she was touched by the warm welcome the State has accorded her and it will remain etched in her memory forever.
During her speech, Murmu also remembered icons like Lachit Barphukon, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Sankardeva and Madhavdev, Bishnu Rabha, Bhupen Hazarika and Gopinath Bordoloi and said Assam’s cultural richness has given the State a special place in the country.
Describing the president as an embodiment of women power in the country, Chief Minister HImanta Biswa Sarma said her visit to the State has inspired and motivated its people.
Governor Jagdish Mukhi also said Murmu was an inspiration for crores of people in the country.
At the civic reception attended by dignitaries, the resident was felicitated with traditional memorabilia by eminent personalities of the State. A cultural progranme was also held on the occasion.
