Shillong, June 8: The lower court granted interim bail after a pre-arrest bail application was moved by the NPP legislator Thomas Sangma, who is accused of rape by a city based woman.
The matter was heard by the additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday.

The public prosecutor and the lawyers of both the victim and the accused were present during the hearing.
The court granted conditional bail but called for the report of the investigation officer.
After the victim lodged the compliant on June 1 that the MLA had raped her multiple times and assured to marry her after she became pregnant , the police registered a case under IPC sections 376 ( rape) and 506 ( criminal intimidation).
