Interim order on hijab only for students, clarifies HC
Bengaluru, Feb 23 (UNI): The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday clarified that its interim order is applicable only to students, not teachers.
The February 10 interim order restricts wearing hijab, saffron shawls (bhagwa) or use any religious flags while attending classes in Karnataka colleges which have a prescribed uniform or dress code.
Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi made the clarification after a lawyer submitted that teachers are being forced to remove their headscarves.
“The order is confined to students only,” Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi emphasised.
The CJ also clarified that the interim order will apply to degree colleges and pre-university colleges which have a prescribed uniform.
“If a uniform is prescribed, they have to follow it whether it is a degree college or government college or PU College,” he said.
