JNC inspects two abandoned project sites

Council says Dy CM Dhar failed to hold meeting on the issue

Shillong, Sep 21: Jaintia National Council (JNC) members, led by its general secretary Wanshwa Suting, visited Byndihati and Umtyra villages on Thursday to inspect two abandoned government projects.

The residential school and teachers’ training centre projects at Byndihati and Umtyra remain unattended even after several years.

“The residential school was sanctioned in October 2015 and the building was constructed within 24 months. The teachers’ training centre was sanctioned in 2016 and the building was constructed. But the government has failed to carry out or accomplish its task,” said JNC in a press statement.

The council members found that the buildings were in dilapidated condition. The doors and windows are broken and the project sites have turned unsafe, JNC informed.

“On September 6, the organisation submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and demanded that the projects be implemented. He assured us to hold a meeting but he failed to do so,” the JNC statement said.

The council also sent a video to the government to witness the crumbling infrastructure that “mocks the very notion of progress”.

JNC said the state government should look into the matter as the projects would benefit students and help in generating employment in the district.
