JNC wants govt to act on drug abuse problem

Shillong, May 23: The Jaintia National Council (JNC)–Khliehriat Circle on Friday urged the state government to address the issue of drug menace.
In a statement, JNC-KC working president Symboh Baiar Sumer said drug abuse has turned into a major threat to society, especially the youth in Meghalaya. “We earnestly urge the concerned government departments to address this issue promptly and seriously,” he added.
The appeal was made after the JNC apprehended two drug users and handed them over to their guardians for better care and treatment. Sumer said the two apprehended individuals revealed that there were several drug dealers in East Jaintia Hills.
JNC reiterated its commitment to combat the drug menace to ensure that supply and distribution of drugs are eradicated from the region.
