Shillong, Oct 21:Joint Action Committee ( JAC), opposing the ropeway project, on Wednesday decided not to attend the meeting convened by the state government on Thursday ( Oct 22) by stating that the invitation was one-sided.
Briefing reporters, the JAC secretary, Dr Linda Marbaniang, said that many affected localities were not invited for the meeting, especially the localities getting water from the Lum Shyllong source.
What irked JAC was that the President/ General Secretary, Riat Laban Dorbar Pyllun, asked to attend with all the headmen of the seven Dorbar and to ensure that the public announcement is given to residents of the area to attend the briefing.
According to the JAC, the traditional heads failed to convene a public hearing in the past, and the current situation is the absence of public consultations.
