Shillong,June 3: A delegation of the Jaintia Students Union (JSU) met Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang seeking her intervention into issues that include strengthening of border police outposts, anti-narcotic measures and others.
In a memorandum to the DGP, e JSU has said all border police outposts in Meghalaya particularly in Jaintia Hills where numerous conflicts have occurred in the past, should be strengthened while alleging that there have been incidents of harassment and killings of local people by residents from Assam living along the Jaintia Hills border.
The JSU wanted both the physical and written exams for police recruitment be conducted in Jaintia Hills itself.
Demolition of illegal check gates and establishing 24 hour women’s helpline were other demands.
