Karbi man from city prays for drought-hit village
From flood in Guwahati to drought in Karbi Anglong
Shillong, July 25: Samson Killing, Chief Coach of Nongmensong Taekwondo School, and a well-known priest, prayed for rain in a drought-hit Karbi-Anglong village in Assam.
Samson, who also holds a black belt, said the rituals were performed at a temple in the village, and claimed that the efforts saw results.
Vophong Tokbi village under Karbi Anglong, Assam, has been facing the dry spell since May this year, compared to some parts of Guwahati, which are reeling under flood.
The drought resulted in scarcity of water and affected agricultural activities.
In distress, the headman of Vophong Tokbi village, Phong Tokbi, invited 77-year-old Samson, as he is a known Pujari (Kabiraj) both in Assam and Meghalaya.
“I left for Vophong from Shillong, performed puja at Tirim Adowan (Karbi temple) constructed by me on July 18”, he said.
Samson, who also runs Vophong Tokbi Taekwondo School, said the rituals for rain, seeking the blessings of Indra, the deity of rain and thunderstorm started from 3 pm to 8 pm on July 18.
“Within 4 hours of the prayers, there was thunderstorm, followed by heavy downpour”, Samson claimed and added that this brought relief to the people.
