Shillong, June 28: The one-man panel on coal mining issue headed by Justice (Retd) BP Katakey has expressed concern over the proposed open cast coal mining in Meghalaya.
Katakey, who was appointed by the High Court of Meghalaya, adopted a cautious approach as the government is planning to carry out open cast mining in the state.

He pointed out about the illegalities in open cast mining in Margherita , Assam.
Katakey held a meeting with the state mining officials to complete the process of transporting the remaining coal after the NGT banned rat-hole mining in Meghalaya.
