Shillong, Aug 24: Justice (retired) BP Katakey who was appointed by the High Court of Meghalaya to monitor illegal coal mining, said a drone survey will be carried out to assess the quantity of extracted coal to be auctioned.
The last meeting Katakey had with the state government officials was on August 18.
Katakey said the immediate concern is to dispose of already extracted coal.
He said the Chief Secretary has assured to ensure that NGT and SC ban on rat-hole coal mining is adhered to.
To a question, Katakey said he submitted four reports and the government is making efforts to implement the recommendations.
In reply to a question, Katakey said he had also submitted three reports on coke plants and ‘consent to operate’ does not exist as fars as the 26 coke plants are concerned.
