KHADC delegation meets finance minister for funds

Shillong, Nov 19: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sought the intervention of the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the release of funds under the 15th Finance Commission.
A three-member delegation of KHADC met the minister in New Delhi, also for special assistance for various developmental projects in the Khasi Hills region.
The delegation was led by the executive member (EM) in charge of land, Powell Sohkhlet, the EM in charge of finance, Seiborlang Warbah and the nominated MDC, Matthew Makdoh.
Sohkhlet said the meeting was for expediting the release of funds under the 15th Finance Commission, provided through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
“The meeting with the Finance Minister of the country was a fruitful one. She has instructed the concerned officials to pursue all possible avenues to unlock the remaining 15th finance commission funds,” he said.
“The Council has impressed upon the Minister to provide special assistance for tribal‑area projects, which are crucial for the progress of our people,” Sohkhlet said.
The delegation had also met the joint secretary and officials of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, which is looking after the implementation of the projects sanctioned under the 15th Finance Commission.
