KHADC delegation meets Guv, seeks financial support

Shillong, May 2: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sought the intervention of the Governor CH Vijayashankar so that the Centre can provide adequate financial assistance to the council.
A delegation led by its chief executive member (CEM) Shemborlang Rynjah met the governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
“The council requires adequate financial assistance so that it can carry out its constitutional duties as mandated under the Sixth ScheduleĀ  including non-developmental expenditure for payment of the salary to the members and the employees of the council”, the delegation said.
The Executive members briefed the governor about the challenges faced by the Khasi Hills region and sought financial support to enhance developmental activities, especially for the upkeep of the Khasi Heritage Village at Mawphlang and the overall maintenance and preservation of cultural and infrastructural assets across the region.

The governor raised concerns over conservation of forest resources and biodiversity in the Khasi Hills region.

He underscored the urgency of preserving ecological balance while pursuing development goals and informed the visiting members that a series of planned meetings with relevant stakeholders would be initiated to address these environmental challenges in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.

He also wanted promotion of Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric cultivation, andĀ  strengthening of beekeeping practices in the region.
