KHADC seeks time to decide on legality of buildings along Umiam

Shillong, Oct 17: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sought time to confirm whether two private buildings along the Umiam lake are legal.
In its order on Monday in reference to a PIL, the two-member bench of the Meghalaya High Court said affidavits have been filed by added respondents Philosopher Iawphniaw and Banalari Khongwar.
The order, however, said the KHADC, the immediate authority, can confirm whether the buildings are in accordance with the existing law.
“The matter will appear on October 20, 2022. It is hoped that the KHADC does not seek any further time and indicates its clear stand to the Court as to the legitimacy or otherwise of the two offending buildings,” the bench directed.
The added respondents were issued notices for illegal and unauthorised construction works along the Umiam Lake.
