Khliehriat NH construction leads to dust pollution

Shillong, May 19: Dust pollution, caused by the construction of the national highway, has been tormenting the locals of Khliehriat and affecting their health.

The East Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner had asked Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt. Ltd, which is building the national highway, to take measures to control the dust pollution, but nothing was done.

So, the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) Khliehriat Circle met the site engineer on Monday and apprised him of the inconvenience to commuters.

The engineer assured the JNC members that the road would be watered twice daily.

“We will monitor the situation to ensure compliance as the health and well-being of our people are a priority,” a JNC statement said.
