KHNAM for ILP before railway

Shillong, March 27: KHNAM has asked the KHADC not to issue any NOC for railways until the ILP is implemented and all the state holders are consulted.

In a statement issued on Monday, KHNAM said it is obvious that the Centre and the state government will make attempts to fulfil their desire to bring railways into the state.

“As per the previous statement, this desire will not be fulfilled  until ILP is implemented in the state  and instead of talking about railway, the  the government should stress on implementation of ILP which is pending with the Centre.

Further, it is obvious that there will be attempts to fool the people by talking about goods trains, “However, the people of the state need to know that once the railway tract is completed, the question of goods trains or passenger train is not relevant anymore”, KHNAM said.

“Therefore, we hope that the general public at large are not driven into the trap of the government and the indigenous citizens of the state should understand the importance of identity which has to be our top priority above all, to ensure a future for our generations to come. What we offer to the central government is “give us ILP and you can have railway”. Now the work for the railways is pending due to non-availability of NOC from the KHADC, and we make a very specific and clear demand to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council not to issue any NOC for railways until the ILP is implemented”, KHNAM asserted.
