Kongthong-Sader road project to begin soon

Shillong, Aug 28: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has approved the implementation of the road project connecting Kongthong and Sader villages in East Khasi Hills.

The demand for the road was first raised by Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha, who has adopted Kongthong village along with several other hamlets in the district.

The 6-km road will be built at a cost of over Rs 30 crore. The project will be funded by the state. “The detailed project report is already there. If the state wants, I will approach the Centre for funds,” said Sinha.

It is expected that the project will take about five months to be completed. Once complete, it will reduce travel time to 30 minutes from three hours now. There is no motorable road at present and walking is the only way to commute.

Sinha said that he also discussed tourism and healthcare for tribals with Sangma.
