KSU delegation meets CEM, opposes ILP & uranium mining
Shillong, June 28: The Khasi Students’ Union on Wednesday wanted the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) not to issue No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for mining of uranium and railway line.
A KSU delegation led by its president Lambokstarwell Marngar stressed the need of having an effective mechanism like the ILP before initiating railway projects.
The delegation also asked the new Executive Committee of the KHADC to see that the tribal lands are not turned into defence land.
“We have seen that the defence authority is looking for land in the region but we have made it clear to the EC that we do not want our land to be turned into defence land. We are happy to know that the council is not in a hurry to take a call on this matter but we have requested them to properly examine any proposal before taking a decision,” Marngar said.
