Kurbah’s ‘Ha Lyngkha Bneng’ selected for Moscow film fest competition

Shillong, Apr 3: Khasi film Ha Lyngkha Bneng (The Elysian Field), directed by Pradip Kurbah, has been selected for the Main Competition at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) 2025.
Produced by Kurbah Films in association with Hello Meghalaya, Pomus New Horizons, Ka Knup Creatives and Cat N Mouse Entertainment, the film features, among others, Richard Kharpuri, Helena Duiia, Baia Marbaniang, Albert Mawrie and Merlvin Mukhim.
“This selection marks a historic milestone for Khasi cinema, bringing our storytelling tradition to one of the world’s oldest and most esteemed film festivals, established in 1935. MIFF 2025 will take place in Moscow from April 17 to April 24, showcasing the finest films from around the globe.
“This selection at MIFF 2025 is a significant achievement, further cementing the global recognition of cinema from India’s Northeast,” Kurbah Films said in a social media post.
The project was selected for Asian Project Market in Busan and the Co-Production Market at NFDC India Film Bazaar in 2020.
“These prestigious platforms provided the initial momentum, shaping the film development and paving the way for eventual realization. The journey was not easy. It took two years of filming through different seasons in Sohra, Meghalaya, to truly capture the beauty and spirit of the land and its people. Despite the challenges, we never lost faith in the power of storytelling,” the director wrote on his Facebook page.
The screenwriter is Paulamii Dutta, who wrote the screenplays for Kurbah’s national award-winning movie Onaatah; Of the Earth.
In 2021, Kurbah’s film Iewduh received the 67th National Film Awards for Best Khasi Film.
