Shillong, Jan 18: A coal mine worker died, and an accused was arrested in connection with the case in East Jaintia Hills.
According to the police, Mosaid Ali (48), son of Riyasad Ali, a resident of Jamuna Moudanga, Nagaon, Hojai, died in an illegal coal quarry in Umthe under Umpleng in Sutnga on January 14.
Police registered a suo-motu case in Khliehriat PS with sections 106(1)/223/303(1)/305(e) of BNS read with section 21(1) of the MMDR Act and arrested Sahanaj Uddin, son of Isfak Hussain, a resident of Bhairabpur Pt- II, PO Kalain, District- Cachar, Assam.
According to the SP, Vikash Kumar, information was received at Umpleng outpost from Sutnga CHC on 14 January regarding the incident.
The victim was brought from Umpleng under Sutnga Elaka.
As per source information, it was found to be an illegal coal quarry and was closed in the presence of a magistrate, the police official said.
The accused will be examined to get all details and facts, and the circumstances leading to the death, he said.
