Linguistic development forum condemns rape of minors

Shillong, Apr 23: The Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum (MLMDF) has demanded action against the perpetrators involved in raping two minor girls during the annual Chenga Benga Mela at Gandhipara near Garobadha in South West Garo Hills. “It is a shameful and heinous crime and the authorities should leave no stone unturned to nab the culprits”, said  a statement issued by SK Choudhury, President of MPMDF, Shillong

“We the linguistic minority communities living in Meghalaya wish to live in peace and harmony with the indigenous communities and it is because of the senselessness of a few individuals, be it from within the state or from accross the border, scar relationships  cause unwanted fear and tension amongst communities”, Choudhury said.
MLMDF not only strives to seek justice and protect the rights of the linguistic minorities living in Meghalaya but also believes in justice for all and will not tolerate any injustice or harm caused to any individual or community in the state of Meghalaya, he said.

“The recent incidents of hate crimes leading to loss of innocent lives and this barbaric shameful incident that has traumatized and scarred two minor children for life, highlights a total break down of the law and order machinery in our state and we urge the government to take swift and stringent action to apprehend and severely punish the culprits. MLMDF also demands that adequate compensation, support and assistance be provided to the victims”, he added.
