Shillong, May 23: The Meghalaya Lokayukta has chargesheeted 13 persons, including ex-MDCs and staff of GHADC for indulging in corruption in Garo Hills.
The persons chargesheeted under section 7 and 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 are former GHADC CEM Boston Marak, former Executive Members Mark Goera Marak, Jimbirth Marak, Levastone Sangma, Righteous Sangma, Rupert Sangma, Kenedick Marak, Dhormonath Sangma, former deputy Executive Member Winnison Marak, ex-MDC Ismail Marak, secretary GHADC Hewingson Sangma and the contractors Kubon Sangma and Nikseng Sangma.
According to the May 18 order of the Lokayukta, B Dhar , the director of prosecution will submit case records to the public prosecutor of West Garo Hills to initiate prosecution in a special court in Tura.
The complaint before the Lokayukta was filed by Nilberth Marak in 2019 for non- implementation of the project allotted to the Asanang GHADC constituency, West Garo Hills represented by Ismail.
Advocate PT Sangma represented the petitioner.
49 projects were allotted to Asanang constituency for 2017-2018 and all the projects were given to the two contractors, Kubon and Nikseng.
After inquiry, it was found that out of 49 developmental projects that were to be implemented/constructed under Asanang constituency, only one graveyard shed was constructed at Balupara and one water tank at Daljagre.
According to the reply to RTI query, Rs 1 crore for all the 49 projects was allotted to the constituency.
Earlier, the accused had moved the High Court of Meghalaya against the CBI inquiry and the matter was disposed of and reverted back to the Lokayukta.
