Lokayukta orders probe into Jal Jeevan Mission anomaly in WGH

Shillong, Feb 3: Meghalaya Lokayukta has ordered an inquiry into the alleged anomalies in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission ( JJM) in West Garo Hills.

The order was passed on February 1 based on the complaint of Advocate Nazmul Hashan, President, Garo Hills Youth Organisation (GHYO) filed on January 30.

Hashan, who is also an advocate, filed the complaint with the Meghalaya Lokayukta against Sengrang G Momin, the Executive Engineer (PHE), North Division, Tura, West Garo Hills and  Jagdish Chelani, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills and Chairman of JJM (PHE Department).

According to the Lokayukta order, John Clitzer Sangma, Sub-Division Police Office, Chokpot, South Garo Hills, member of Inquiry Wing, Meghalaya Lokayukta will  conduct a preliminary inquiry on the alleged embezzlement related to JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission) under  two projects (Construction of Nekikona WSS & Construction of Babilgre WSS).

He has to submit the report within April 2.

The director of the inquiry will supervise the progress of the inquiry every 15 days and check the case diary.

JJM was launched by the Prime Minister on August 15, 2019 to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024 to every rural household.

According to Hashan, as per the report and record and data of the JJM portal, funds in the name of JJM water supply provided to the households of Askikandi and other villages were drawn but not a single tap and water pipe has been installed or connected in  Askikandi and other villages under the two projects (Augmentation of Nekikona combined WSS & Construction of Babilgre WSS).
