Itanagar, Feb 21 (UNI): A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly physically assaulting an on-duty nursing officer at General Hospital, Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh last Friday night, police said on Monday.
The accused was nabbed from Kombo-Pomte village in the district the same night. According to Aalo Police Station officer-in-charge Yomken Riram, the incident happened around 10.25 pm on February 18.
“As per the victim, the accused identified as Rilli Lollen had come to the hospital with a friend and demanded that she administer an injection to his friend (that too without possessing a doctor’s prescription). To this, the nursing officer said she is not the one to do this job and told him to see another nurse, to which the accused reacted and assaulted her,” the OC informed.
After completing the formalities, the arrested accused was lodged in the police lockup. Subsequently, on receipt of a written complaint, a case was registered at Aalo PS under IPC Sections 341/354/323/332 and Section 4 of the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Medical Service Personnel and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Act, 2019.
“After two days of police remand, the accused has been shifted to judicial custody,” the OC informed.
The CCTV footage of the crime scene has also been collected, he said, while assuring justice to the victim and the medical fraternity at large when the aggrieved nurses and doctors of the hospital gheraoed the police station the next morning.
Meanwhile, the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), Arunachal Pradesh State branch strongly condemned the GH Aalo incident and requested the authorities concerned to look into the matter and take strict legal action against the accused.
TNAI State branch general secretary Techi Mepung said in a statement, “If this type of incidents go on, it will become extremely unsafe for all the medical personnel, specially the nursing section as our profession demands for 24×7 duties.”
