Manipur poll outcome not to affect MDA, says Conrad

Shillong, March 16: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has asserted that the NPP-led government will not disturb the coalition partners, including the BJP though the NPP was not invited to be part of the government in Manipur.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Conrad  said though the BJP in Manipur has numbers,. the NPP is open to supporting the BJP government in that state.

Regarding his stand on BJP in Meghalaya,the chief minister said the party is committed to work with all the MDA coalition partners and not just BJP.

“Every single six coalition partners have supported us when we needed them. And they have stuck with the government and the MDA in difficult times. Therefore, it is the duty of the government and of the leadership to ensure we appreciate and ensure we fulfill the commitments that we have given to each one of them,” he said.

He also made it clear that there is no strained relationship between the NPP and the BJP.

Earlier, he expressed confidence that the party will get more than 30 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections.

Addressing a meeting to welcome former minister Nehlang Lyngdoh to the NPP, Conrad said, “I am sure with the kind of support we are getting from each and every one the NPP will come out victorious in the coming election and we will get more than 30 seats”.
