Manpower shortage worries AIIMS Guwahati
Centre for experimental learning & simulation a new initiative

Guwahati, Jan 22: Like in the case of NEIGRIHMS, specialists and super specialists looking for greener pastures is a worry for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS,) Guwahati, though with the existing staff, the only such institute in the North East, is committed to providing medical help to the people in the region.
PIB organised a tour of journalists from Sikkim, Tripura and Meghalaya to AIIMS on January 22
During their interaction, Executive Director Prof. Ashok Puranik said that though there are issues about manpower shortage, the committed staff are doing their best to tide over the crisis.
The foundation stone of AIIMS Guwahati was laid in May 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also inaugurated it in April 2023.
Being the first AIIMS in the North East, it caters to the medical needs of the region, which is afflicted with a high rate of cancer, anemia, infant-maternal mortality and other health issues.
Besides the executive director, the department heads explained the status, achievements and future initiatives of the institute to the visiting media team.
Centre for experimental learning & simulation and supply of medicines through drones are new initiatives.
According to the executive director, the purpose of the Institute is to correct regional imbalances in healthcare and attain self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education.
