Mastermind among Bangladeshi intruders held

Shillong, Aug 10: The fifth Bangladeshi introducer and the mastermind among the group of infiltrators were arrested on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the intruder has been identified as Mubarak Hussain (in picture),son of  Lal Mia, a resident of Kalagaon, Sonamganj district of Bangladesh.

“Today, the 10th of August, around 7 in the morning, another suspect was apprehended from the village of Gilagora, with the help of the villagers.”, the South West Khasi Hills SP, B Jyrwa said.

Gilagora is under Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills.

Giving further details on the matter, the BSF IG, Meghalaya Frontier OP Upadhyay, said the fifth accused is the mastermind of the crime.

“He is the leader of the gang. Many cases were registered against him in the past. He is involved in many criminal activities both in India and Bangladesh”, said Upadhyay.

According to the BSF IG, the interrogation of the accused by the police, the BSF and other agencies will throw more light on the matter.

As per earlier media reports, at least 8-9 Bangladeshi intruders entered the South West Khasi Hills border.

“I am not sure about a large group, but one or two from the intruders must be hiding, but combing operations are on to get them”, the IG said.

Earlier on August 9, four members of the gang were arrested.

Motive appears to be looting & abduction

The BSF IG added that looting and abduction of the border people may be the primary objectives of the intruders, as per the materials, including a handcuff recovered from them.

He appreciated the role of the BSF men, the police and the public in keeping vigil and thwarting criminal activities on the border.
