Shillong, Sep 25: The outgoing state BJP president Ernest Mawrie has denied any leadership issue as the reason for the appointment of a new president.
“I was appointed in January 2020 and I completed more than three years in office beyond the tenure”, Mawrie said on Monday after the appointment of Rikman Momin as the new president.
HM Shangpliang, who quit the party recently, had blamed internal conflicts and nepotism in the party under the leadership of Mawrie.
However, Mawrie said these allegations haveĀ nothing to do with the change of leadership.
“I had already conveyed to the BJP central leaders not to give more responsibility to me after the Assembly polls”, Mawrie said.
The BJP got only two MLAs-Sanbor Shullai and AL Hek- in the Assembly polls though the party contested all the seats.
When asked, Mawrie said he does not know what would be his next assignment.
