MCA announces local partner for first Garo Cricket League

Shillong, Nov 21: To further promote cricket among the indigenous communities of the state, the apex council of the Meghalaya Cricket Association has decided to support the Maitshaphrang Khasi League, as was announced last week, and informed on Thursday that it will also support the 1st Garo Hills Tribal Cricket League.
The Maitshaphrang Khasi League is a T20 tournament independently organised by the Khasi Students Union, and the MCA will provide technical and other support as required.
In a similar vein, the MCA sought avenues for such a tournament in Garo Hills, with MCA Vice-President Sengnab Momin leading the process. A meeting was convened with cricket enthusiasts and officials of affiliated units at Alotgre Cricket Ground in Tura on 18 November, and a committee was formed to organise such a tournament.
It was agreed to bestow the responsibility of organising and managing the 1st Garo Hills Tribal Cricket League on Merry Souls Youth Club from North Garo Hills.
The dates of the tournament, which will be held in Mendipathar, will be announced later.
The Apex Council of the MCA expressed its gratitude to all concerned who had taken this initiative to promote cricket in Garo Hills, which will be a major boost for young, talented players to develop their skill set and prepare them to represent the state at higher levels.
