“As we all know many committees were formed and many resolutions were passed by the MDA-1 & 2 but without any results”, he said.

The state government has not taken any action on the inquiry report of the commission of retired justice T Vaiphei related to the killing of Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew, Passah pointed out.

Some of the committees and commissions instituted by the government are panel on Harijan Colony, commissions on rice scam and MeECL affairs and the recent committee on reservation policy.

The government also passed resolutions on central recognition to Khasi-Garo language besides ILP but the wait continues.

According to the KHNAM leader, the need of the hour is the result and action and not mere formation of committees, commissions and passing of resolutions without any solutions.

“It seems we have a government who is a big fan of resolution and committee but zero in solution to the problems that the state is facing all this time,” he said.

Reservation panel

The KHNAM leader wanted the experts from the  state to be part of the committee to review the reservation policy.

“The government has decided to get experts from outside the state to be part of the committee to review the reservation policy but we want the experts from the state to be part of the committee”, he said.

Make Meghalaya cadre in civil service

Passah said the joint Assam-Meghalaya cadre system  should be abolished to make way for Meghalaya cadre or joint cadre with Mizoram or Nagaland and not with Assam.

KHNAM will send a representation to the government to do away with the joint cadre with Assam as it affects the functioning of the state of Meghalaya on various levels be it boundary dispute and other related subjects.

Second phase of border talks

Passah said all the stakeholders should be taken into confidence while dealing with the second phase of border talks to resolve the remaining six areas of difference.

According to Passah, in the first phase of border talks, many stakeholders were not included.
