MDA partners want end to violence

Speaker, Banteidor & Saleng speak out

Shillong, Jan 31: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, who is also the UDP president on  Monday condemned the IED blast incident at Khyndailad.

The MDA partners, PDF leader Banteidor Lyngdoh and NCP member Saleng Sangma said the government should end the culture of violence.

“The matter is serious and we have to take it up with the chief minister so that this is tackled once and for all. The recurring incidents like this can’t be tolerated”, Banteidor said.

Saleng has already spoken to his colleagues in the MDA expressing anguish.

Earlier, speaking to reporters, the speaker said,”It is very unfortunate and very sad to see that this kind of thing is happening right at the centre of the city.”

He said the incident is highly condemnable. “Such kind of violence will not be tolerated at all as innocent lives will have to bear the brunt.Therefore, it is not acceptable at all,” the speaker said.

The UDP president said he would also take up the matter with the chief minister and Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui that such incident is not allowed to reoccur in the future.

Rymbui assured that the government is committed to provide safety and security to the residents of the state.
