Shillong, Feb 21: A visit to Mawlai Mawiong Community Health Centre ( CHC) at 7 pm on Saturday (Feb 21) to understand the preparedness of the medical staff following the death of Shillong MP Ricky Syngkon revealed laxity as the gate was locked.

The Shillong MP was first taken to the CHC from the football ground, where he collapsed on February 19.
When journalists visited at 7 pm on Saturday, a lady from inside the gate said,” There is no doctor, he is at home”.
Similarly, when the MP was rushed to the CHC, there was no doctor.
Later, the MP was taken to Robert’s Hospital, Jaiaw, where he was declared dead.
The state government is yet to take any action against the lapses.
Earlier, on February 20, health official Sampath Kumar said he was seeking a report related to the treatment of the MP.
When asked, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said that the government is awaiting a response from the district health officials.
On the action to be taken since the CHC in Mawiong did not have a doctor as Saturday is the third day after the death of the MP, the minister replied, “We will be coming up with the press release.”..
