Meghalaya govt should save Brookside heritage site

Editor,

Thank you so much. I read/see your epaper from time to time and feel the real essence of it and the true journalism that your staff reporters are looking for in the news, happenings and events around the state, specifically Shillong, a beautiful hill city I have visited several times.

I refer to your April 18 edition detailing the real concern under the caption ‘Concern over construction at heritage Brookside‘.  It is a grave concern for all Tagore lovers worldwide to see how already the ‘government-declared Tagore heritage site’ at Brookside is slowly making way to encroachment against its elegance of beauty against which the concern of Malabika Bisharad, a known Shillong writer and Tagore researcher, is laudable as reported.

I also express my deep concern through your news portal to request the Government of Meghalaya to protect the Tagore heritage site from unplanned construction activities in terms of civic development in and around the Brookside Bungalow immortalised by the poet laureate’s stayover more than a century ago.

Yours etc.,
Arun Kumar Baksi,
Kolkata
